Secret Barville is a cuvée of great character revealing remarkable quality marked by its terroirs. The wine is the result of a family winemaking tradition dating back to the 19th century, passed down and improved through generations. It comes from the Brotte family of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, descendants of the Barville and Laget families. The blend of old Grenache and Syrah vines from the finest terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape creates a complex and rich cuvée.
Situation, Terroir & Vinification: Located on the “Coteau de l’Ange” and Beaurenard in the northwest of the appellation, the red clay-limestone soil covered with rolled pebbles is ideally suited for cultivating magnificent, concentrated, and structured Grenache. On the “Beaurenard” plot of Domaine Barville, we work Syrah and Mourvèdre for remarkable freshness. The family know-how preserves and expresses the personality, authenticity, and quality of the wine. Sustainable vineyard management includes thorough tillage throughout the year. Green work is carried out with ancestral expertise (disbudding, leaf removal, green pruning) to maximize grape aeration, limit yields, and enhance quality. Manual harvesting is done in 12 kg crates to avoid compressing the grapes. Berries are carefully separated from the stems using a destemmer, and then sorted berry by berry on a table by four people. The finest whole berries are transported to the fermentation tank by gravity. Fermentation is natural, with a long maceration lasting about four weeks. We only use punching down (no pumping). Syrah and Mourvèdre are aged in French oak barrels from one previous vintage, while Grenache Noir is aged in 400L clay amphorae, giving it great minerality. Bottling occurs after 18 months of aging and is done by gravity without filtration.
