Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre
Surprisingly deep ruby with tiled reflections.
Initial notes of walnuts and prunes suggest maturity, but the nose also reveals a rare strength of stone and flint. Over time, it opens up to aromas of fortified fruits (cherries in brandy), figs, truffles, cloves, complemented by smoky notes, orange peel, and leather.
Offering an astonishing freshness for its 51 years, the palate features finely grained tannins. Complex and intense aromas of dried figs, fortified fruits, and tobacco emerge. Aged for nearly half a century in wood, this wine stands out for its exceptional finesse and length.
Still 2 years.
The 1972 vintage is considered a classic in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, producing great wines despite a challenging beginning for French viticulture in the early 1970s. This wine is characterized by good acidity and a significant presence of tannins. On tasting, it reveals fresh, fruity, and tannic notes with deep color and moderate degrees.
